Where We Go   


  • All trips begin in Johannesburg, South Africa where we will stay at a small game lodge and visit many of the sites with local guides such as Soweto, the Apartheid Museum, The Cradle of Civilization and more.
  • Safari inPilanesberg National Park, home of the big five it is located in an extinct volcanic crater and boasts no malaria. Alternate safari location atInkwenkwezi Game Reserve overlooking the Indian Ocean on the Wild Coast in a non malarial zone.  Early morning, and night safaris available as well as elephant back safaris and walking tours.  At Pilanesberg we will experience what like was like for the Bakglata peoples of the Northwest Province as we take part in a traditional clan meeting and tour the local museum. We will also tour local school, places of business and the stadium where some of the 2010 World Cup games were played. 
  • We fly south to Maseru, Lesotho (all flights in Africa are included in the price) where we visit the Basotho Hat weaving cooperative and orphanages as well as other local sites   
  • We travel through the lowlands of Lesotho to Morija Village, where we stay at the Moija Guesthouse. There are many opportunities to visit the youth center, spend time in the village and learn more about the history of Lesotho at the country's only museum. Hike to dinosaur prints, pony trek, mountain bike and meet with local grass roots organizations. It is common that our kids and teens start up soccer games and jump rope with the kids in the village.
  • Heading into the heart of the Lesotho mountains, we travel to MalealeaVillage to stay in a remote part of the country. Malealea Lodge has been working with the people of the village for decades and all guides and trips are led by the local villagers. Days are filled with pony treks, hikes, waterfall excursions, mountain biking, village overnights, sangoma visits (traditional healer), and Malealea Development Trust Fund tours. Working opportunities are available as well as meals at local houses and a trip to the joaleng (place where homemade brew is made).
  • The scenery changes dramatically as we travel through Lesotho and the Eastern Cape of South Africa down to the stunning beaches of the Wild Coast. We will spend the next few days inChintsa, South Africa overlooking the Indian Ocean. We will work with Volunteer Africa 32 degrees while visiting their ongoing projects in the townships and villages around Chintsa. A trip to the Great Cliffs offers whale watching opportunities and there is time to play at the beach, surf, horse back ride, mountain bike, or just relax watching the monkeys play in the palm trees.     
  • Opportunity to travel on to Cape Town from East London. 
  • With a customized tour, there is the option for trips to many other South African and Lesotho destinations. ALL trips have many add ons available.  






The Land   


  • Hike, mountain bike, abseil or pony trek through the Maluti Mountains of Lesotho 
  • Surf, stroll or horse back ride on the pristine beaches of the Wild Coast of South Africa 
  • Safari through some of the best National Parks in Southern Africa on foot, hot air balloon, and land rovers

The History 

  • Explore Soweto and step into the heart of the apartheid conflict. Visit Madela's house, Freedom Square and the Apartheid Museum      
  • Journey to the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site             
  • Experience the history of the Bakglata, Xhosa and Basotho peoples through living reenactments, hands on experience, local historians and museums   
  • Visit the Basotho stronghold of Thaba Bousiu, and understand how Lesotho became the only country in the world to reside within another country
